Steve Bruce wants to beat Sam Allardyce in race to become next England manager

Steve Bruce says he wants to manage England
Bruce was interviewed by the FA yesterday following Allardyce's meeting last week.
And, speaking this afternoon, admits he's not sure how it went but hopes to have made an impression.
He said he hoped he'd made his case to follow Roy Hodgson and admitted it was his dream to manage his country.
"I never quite made it as a player, all those years ago, but who wouldn't (take it)?" Bruce said.
"If you are English and it means something to you, then who wouldn't?
"It has got to be the prime job that any Englishman would want.
"I am highly flattered to be even considered, and extremely, extremely grateful to be considered.
"If anything happens, then let's see what the rest of the week brings. If it does, then happen days.
And when asked how his interview went, he told Sky Sports: "You never know how an interview goes.
"I hope it went okay, I put my case across, and let's hope it was successful.
"Then again I am up against a big pal of mine in Sam, who has always done a good job over the years.
"Apparently, there are some other candidates who are there, too.
"To be in the mix with it, I am highly flattered.
"Any Englishman for their salt would be extremely, extremely proud to be the England manager.
"What I said to them in an interview has to remain there.
Asked what he would do as England manager, he said: "We have got to take away the fear, especially in tournaments, for sure and somehow.
"In tournaments, we have only one match out of the last seven games in two tournaments.
Bruce met with the FA yesterday to discuss the job

"We have some good players here in England, especially the young players, but that has to be the main thing surely."
The FA look set to make their decision this week with Allardyce still favourite and Bruce, along with Jurgen Klinsmann and Eddie Howe, also in the running.
Hull released a statement this morning calling on the FA to make their decision so they can prepare for the season.
It read: "The Club can confirm that manager Steve Bruce has held informal discussions regarding the England vacancy, although no official approach has been received from the FA.
"We would hope to see the FA conclude their business quickly in order to avoid further speculation regarding Steve ahead of what is a season of huge importance for the Club following our return to the Premier League."
Hodgson resigned as manager following Euro 2016 when England were knocked out by Iceland in the last 16.
