Sporting CP and Portugal midfielder Joao Mario enjoyed an incredible summer for his home country, winning Euro 2016 and playing some of the finest football of his career. His strong play has also led to renewed interest from Chelsea, who are prepared to pay a hefty sum to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
According to Sport Witness, Chelsea are preparing to offer around €40 million to Sporting CP for Joao Mario. Per the source, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is fond of Mario, and the two clubs have already initiated contact with each other.
Mario set new career-highs this past season with six league goals and 33 league appearances for Sporting.
On the international level, Mario has been capped 18 times for Portugal and played in every one of the nation’s matches in the Euro 2016 tournament, logging an assist in the 3-3 tie with Hungary during the group stage, and winning the title in the 1-0 Final win over France
In 2015, as a member of the Under-21 team, Mario helped Portugal claim the runner-up spot in the UEFA Euro Under-21 title, losing to Sweden in the process.
