Barcelona reach deal with Valencia to sign Andre Gomes

Barcelona's midfield is about to get yet another boost. The club announced late Thursday night that they have agreed to a deal with Valencia to sign midfielder Andre Gomes. The player is expected to come in to finalize the transfer some time next week.

Gomes, 22, began his career in the Benfica youth system and eventually the senior team before moving to La Liga on loan in 2014. After a year with Valencia, they decided to buy him on a permanent basis for the 2015-16 season.

He has earned 13 caps for the Portugal national team so far in his brief career and was a part of the team that just won EURO 2016.

Gomes will be the fourth big addition to the Blaugrana squad this summer, joining Samuel Umtit, Denis Suarez, and Lucas Digne as new arrivals at the Camp Nou.

This season will certainly be a transitional time for the Barcelona roster, it appears as if this is one more big step toward the new era.
