Rapid Vienna 2 Chelsea 0: Antonio Conte slumps to debut defeat

ANTONIO CONTE suffered defeat in his first game as Chelsea boss.

TOUGH START: Antonio Conte's new Chelsea side lost to Rapid Vienna
The Italian tactician took charge of his new squad for their pre-season friendly against Rapid Vienna in Austria but could only watch on as his Blues slumped to a 2-0 defeat.
Conte started with a strong team including John Terry, Willian and Diego Costa but it was Rapid who took an early lead, playing their first game in their new stadium.
After just eight minutes, 19-year-old Joelinton caught Chelsea's defence sleeping to play a neat one-two on the edge of the box before rounding Asmir Begovic to slot home.
Rapid then took control of the first half as Chelsea failed to make their mark on the game.
Conte made wholesale changes at the break and nearly drew level when Blues left-back Ola Aina's cross hit Rapid's post.
But the home side ensured it was a debut to forget for Conte when Tomi Correa tapped home following Branislav Ivanovic's mistake.
Chelsea now take on RZ Pellets in their next pre-season fixture on Wednesday.
