Renato Sanches scored as Portugal booked their place in the Euro 2016 semifinals on Thursday.
Renato Sanches turned down a move to Manchester United to sign for Bayern Munich, according to Portugal teammate Nani.
Sanches, 18, joined Bayern from Benfica for an initial €35 million in May, with reports at the time claiming United had also been interested in the youngster.
And Nani, currently away with Portugal at Euro 2016 alongside Sanches, has confirmed that the midfielder had an opportunity to move to Old Trafford but ultimately passed up the offer.
"Renato would have been a great signing for Man United. I have no doubts," Nani is quoted as saying by Sky Sports. "But he had a choice -- and the choice he made was Bayern Munich.
"I hope he has made a good choice and that he is happy in his career, but I think United will now know what a big player they have missed."
Sanches made his first start for Portugal on Thursday as they booked their place in the Euro 2016 semifinals after beating Poland on penalties.
The midfielder marked the occasion with his first international goal and Nani feels he is proving to the world what a talented player he is.
"Renato is a very confident player," Nani said. "He is very young, but he already has a great personality for the game. He isn't scared to play in the big games and he isn't scared to show his qualities against any opponent.
"It is good to see another young player want to be a star and to achieve his dreams. You must be like that. You can't be afraid of anything -- and he isn't."
